The Red Plaza

The red plaza is the most famous plaza of Moscow, this one located in the commercial neighborhood known as kitay-gorod.

 It possesses 695 meters of length and 130 meters of width, being like that the biggest third plaza of the world. The red plaza divides the Kremlin, fortitude where nowadays the president of Russia resides.

 From her the principal streets of Moscow depart in all directions, by it is considered to be the center of the city and of the whole Russia.  

The name of red plaza neither comes from the color of the bricks than surround, it nor is a reference to the red color of the communism. Derive from the Russian word Krasnaia, that it means “red”, in the old Russian meant “pretty”, that is to say the pretty plaza.

In the plaza they are: the gibbet, place where executions were realized or the death penalty. Also there is the monument to minin and pozharsky, this way as the mausoleum of lenin.

In his beginning consisted in buildings of wood that were cleaned by Iván III of Russia due to his vulnerability. Then it was the shift of the markets, the public ceremonies and proclamations, and even the coronations of the czars.
